Early Learner Piano is nestled in a sprawling garden in the Berkeley Hills. The Maybeck Cottage residence was built in 1923, this piano studio nearly a century later. Learning in this quiet and green place gives music study a welcome separation from the rest of life.

The studio features an upright Grand, a Steinway Grand and a Virginals style harpsichord as well as an old-fashioned blackboard. Music Mind Games materials support reading and theory!

Reading practice

Students learn together with hands-on practice, group activities. The homework reading tools include Kristin Gore’s Minibooks Faber’s Reading series and the Clarfield Series on Technique.

Recitals & Graduations

All children participate in recitals, even the youngest new students. Preparation begins months in advance with refinement of completely memorized pieces during group classes and lessons, ensuring recitals are positive experiences, always well within the child’s capability.
